Yes — at roughly 30% fat it whips well when thoroughly chilled first. Because there are no stabilisers in it, whip it just before serving rather than hours ahead.

Is this the same as malai?

It is the same thing, separated mechanically rather than skimmed off boiled milk. It is thicker and cleaner-tasting than skimmed malai because it never went through a boil.
